A man has today been charged before the Nairobi Acting Chief Magistrate with stealing an AK 47 Rifle from a police officer.
John Nderitu Njeri was accused of stealing the firearm valued at Sh45,000, a magazine valued at Sh 3,000, 30 rounds of live 7.62mm special caliber ammunition valued at Sh 1,380, all totaling Sh 49,380 from Police Constable John Sagala.
He allegedly committed the offence on November 17 at Mathare Depot Police Lines in Starehe District, Nairobi.
The court heard that Nderitu stole the property of the Government of Kenya from the residential place of the said police officer.
According to the prosecution, Nderitu was arrested yesterday and the investigating officer asked for more time, since the accused could give information that would lead to the recovery of the fire arm.
The prosecutor, Celestine Oluoch, asked the court to remand the accused for three days at Pangani Police Station to facilitate investigations.
Nderitu denied the charges before acting Chief Magistrate Dolphin Okundi. The case will be mentioned on December 19.
