MUTEA IRINGO RISKS BEING JAILED

High Court has issued warrant of arrest against Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo for failing to appear in court to show course why he should not be sent to jail for refusing to pay a former police officer a sum of Sh 727,706.60 who was shot by a colleague. In an incident that occurred in 1987.

 The judgment was delivered by retired judge justice David Rimita ,since then the government has not paid the police Mr Mwanza Mukoma.

He was shot by Philip Ole  Kuapi whom he enjoined  in the suit seeking damages, he says that upon being shot  the  police officer arrested and  preferred criminal charges  of theft against him, he was however acquitted. He then filed a suit seeking damages from the government and an

Application asking the Principal Secretary to attend court, which was issued on 30 December 2013.

When the matter came for hearing today before deputy registrar F. Wangila, neither the Principal Secretary nor a representative from the AG was present; the court proceeded to issue the warrant of arrest against Mr Iringo.
