Six people suspected to be involved in a child trafficking syndicate have been remanded in custody for seven days.
Five middle aged women and a taxi driver appeared before Nairobi principal magistrate Joseph Karanja and pleaded not guilty to the offence of attempt to adopt a child
The magistrate remanded Hellen Mutile Peter, Judy Wairimu Ngigi, Dickson Maina Ngare, Peninah Kerubo Anasi, Serah Ambiyo Matukho and Lilian Wanjiru at Kilimani Police Station for a week as detective sought time to complete investigations.
“We want to carry out DNA test on a child found in their possession,” said the prosecution
They are accused of offering for sale a female child to another person on July 8 this year at Soweto village in Kayole.
The suspects told the court that they had been denied food since their arrest on Tuesday.
