East Africa Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie.

An Hotelier has filed a petition in Industrial court challenging the appointment of Joseph Rotich Cherutoi as head of finance in the Board of Trustees Tourism Fund.
The applicant Stephen Odbiambo Odero, says the appointment and interview conducted was not transparent and the same should be quashed.
He says that the Trustee Fund did not have Board who could have conducted the interview as provided for under the tourism Act, so as to determine the best candidate.
Its applicant’s position that the court jurisdiction to make inquiry over the unlawful appointment and direct that fresh interviews be conducted by inviting other candidates for the position of Head of Finance.
The applicant who is a manager with Breeze Makuti Hotel based in Migori County argues that Trustee Fund ought to have followed the proper procedure while seeking to recruit the head of finance.
There is no justifiable basis in which Mr Cherutoi was appointed to the position to oversee financing of tourism in the country.
There was no extreme urgency to hire the defendant to this high position when indeed there was no board in place to conduct the interview and select the best candidate.
The application will come for hearing before the Industrial court tomorrow to determine the issue raised by the applicant.
